Museum of Art and Archaeology new art exhibit

The Museum of Art and Archaeology of the University of Missouri has a new art exhibit 'Sites of Experience: Keith Crown and the Landscape of New Mexico" which begins January 26th and goes till May 19th.

Keith Crown was one of the most innovative watercolorists and landscape artist of the twentieth century.  His humble beginnings started at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and after serving in the military during WWII, he accepted a position at USC where he taught painting and drawing until he retired in 1983.

Crown would often spend his summers in Northern New Mexico where he would often go for artistic renewal all the while choosing to not replicate what he had observed before but to evoke his experience of it.

Crown developed a distinctive iconography of the northern New Mexico landmarks with many of the sights familiar to visitors.
